EHS Intern

Position Summary: Assist the EHS Manager in leading the organizational safety process in an assigned plant to ensure a safe and accident-free work environment. Plans and/or delivers programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices. Inspects organization's facilities to detect existing or potential accident hazards and determine corrective or preventive measures. Follows-up to ensure compliance. Assist with the investigation of workplace accidents, root cause analysis and monitor corrective action implementation. Works with the EHS Manager to reduce injuries and lost work time. Assist with leading the safety committees, focus groups, and other safety leadership in developing a behavior-based safety program that further fosters and develops a plant wide culture that all accidents can be prevented.
 
The goal for this internship is to locate a candidate to hire into a full-time roll starting in 2022 depending on school scheduling.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:
 
·      Assist the EHS Manager with the implementation of the Key Concepts of Safety process at the facility.
·      Establish plant safety policies/programs to ensure compliance with company policies and federal/state/local regulatory requirements.
·      Promote plant safety by working closely with all departments to analyze current situations and recommend safety improvements.
·      Co-chair with the Plant Management, the Safety Committee process and encourage greater participation in and rewards from the process.  Provide support and direction in an effort to instill an employee driven safety structure.
·      Analyze incident data to identify trends and incident types that can be prevented.
·      Assist with the incident investigation process to determine root cause and timely corrective action.
·      Manage and establish objectives for the Health and Safety Department.
·      Drive safety process ownership to the floor level where appropriate.
·      Develop training programs for all levels of plant personnel toward the end of a safer, more efficient, engaged and productive plant.
·      Manage and monitor training programs to meet Occupational Safety and Health requirements.
·      Assure all records are kept in accordance with State and Federal regulations including OSHA logs and training documents.
·      Develops implements and recommends programs and practices designed to reduce work-related injuries and illnesses including but not limited to ergonomic assessments and job hazard analysis.
·      Perform other duties as assigned.
·      Safely and accurately perform all duties as required for this position to ensure the safety and quality of our products.
·      All other duties as assigned.
 
Knowledge and Critical Skill Requirements:
·      Working towards a Graduate or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, or related field.
·      Experience in hazard recognition, evaluation and analysis, and development and implementation of control processes.
·      Experience with Microsoft Office
·      Strong communication skills (written and oral).

Physical Demands:
·      Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
·      Must be able to perform the following:  standing, climbing, pulling, and or pushing, carrying, grasping, reaching, twisting, turning and stooping.
·      Ability to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time. 
·      Good physical condition with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently.
·      Good hand/eye coordination, motor skills, 20/20 corrected vision and hearing within the normal range.
 
Environmental, Health and Safety Requirements:
·      Must wear all required personal protection equipment associated with specific manufacturing work environment and job duties as stated in the Employee Handbook, posted policies, or as assigned by leadership personnel.
·      Maintain clean and safe working environment and follow all safety policies and procedures, such as lock out/tag out, safe lifting techniques, and all others as instructed.
·      Inform Management of any food safety or quality issues or of any processes which become noncompliant with specified requirements.
