Co/Op Intern - Department of Parks

Here is a great opportunity for enthusiastic, friendly students (high school or college)! Kentucky’s State Parks are looking for students who are in good standing with their schools, at least a 2.5 GPA, and sponsored by their schools to receive academic credit for participation as Co-op/Interns.

For all State Park Co-op/Intern positions, please visit https://Parks.ky.gov to find a park or region where you would like to participate. Next, contact the business office at the park where you would like to work - park contact info is available on the Parks website. Or visit the park in person! Tell them you are interested in a Co-op/Intern position at the park.

This is an Interim position. An Interim position means a position established to address a one-time or recurring need of less than nine (9) months duration and exempt from the classified service under KRS 18A.115.

The Kentucky Co-op/Intern program is intended to provide high school and college level students the opportunity to gain meaningful employment in state government and develop practical workplace skills in a variety of professional areas. State Park Co-op/Interns are introduced to career options in state parks.

Program Benefits:
  • Academic Credit for participation
  • Provides students direct participation with Kentucky State Parks
  • Allows students to meet and work with specialists and experts in their field of study
  • Allows students to make connections through the internship, which could lead to full time state employment
  • Holiday pay for any scheduled work hours on the state holiday (up to 7.5/8.0 hours)
  • Earn one day of sick leave (7.5/8.0 hours) and one month of service for any month which 100 hours or more are worked/paid during the month
  • Overtime for hours worked beyond 40 in a workweek

Interested candidates must also do the following in order to qualify for a Co-op/Intern position:
  • Check with your counselor, advisor or cooperative education coordinator at your school to ensure you can receive academic credit
  • Register with your school’s Co-op/Intern office
  • Submit an Academic Credit Agreement form signed by your school’s counselor or advisor (we will send you the form when you contact us)
  • Provide an unofficial transcript from your school when you submit the Academic Credit Agreement
  • Comply with all Kentucky State Park’s rules, regulations, policies and safety rules
