Stacks Maintenance Student Assistant

Student assistants in Stacks Maintenance ensure the integrity of Ekstrom Library’s book collections by regular shelving, shifting, shelf-reading, and a variety of special projects. The schedule is between 10-20 hours per week, on weekdays from 9AM to 5PM. As student staff, you will occasionally help patrons while you are working in the stacks, but the job is mostly assigned, independent work – great for a student who likes to concentrate without a lot of interruptions. You’ll also learn how to navigate the complicated library collections like a pro – a big benefit for any serious student!

Tasks include: Shelving, shelf-reading, and shifting in the book and bound journal collections, library book pickup, sorting books, loading book trucks. Special projects like measurements, space calculations, inventories, mild cleaning, or other projects as directed by the supervisor.

Required: Ability to concentrate with letters and numbers over a long period of time with detail and accuracy; must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs., push fully loaded book trucks, stoop and/or reach, and otherwise perform all general library stacks work; ability to follow directions, ask questions. Punctuality and reliability.
 Desirable: Library or bookstore experience.
